Humans harness this power along the coastal regions of the United States, Canada, Scotland, and Australia.

Wave energy or wave power is the transport and capture of energy by ocean surface waves. The energy captured is then used for all different kinds of useful work, including electricity generation, water desalination, and pumping of water. Wave energy is also a type of renewable energy and is the largest estimated global resource form of ocean energy. The first patent in wave energy happened in Paris in Monsieur Girard and his son proposed using direct mechanical action to drive heavy machinery, including mills, saws, and pumps.

Advantages/Benefits

Wave power is the capture of energy of wind waves to do useful work — for example, electricity generation , water desalination , or pumping water. A machine that exploits wave power is a wave energy converter WEC. Wave power is distinct from tidal power , which captures the energy of the current caused by the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon. Waves and tides are also distinct from ocean currents which are caused by other forces including breaking waves , wind , the Coriolis effect , cabbeling , and differences in temperature and salinity. Wave-power generation is not a widely employed commercial technology compared to other established renewable energy sources such as wind power , hydropower and solar power. However, there have been attempts to use this source of energy since at least [1] mainly due to its high power density. Whereas, the average annual power density of the waves at e.

Wave Energy

A sustainable power source is more and more important in modern society. Ocean wave energy is a very promising renewable energy source, and it is widely distributed worldwide. But, it is difficult to develop efficiently due to various limitations of the traditional electromagnetic generator. In recent years, the newly developed triboelectric nanogenerator TENG provides an excellent way to convert water wave energy into electrical energy, which is mainly based on the coupling between triboelectrification and electrostatic induction. In this paper, a review is given for recent advances in using the TENG technology harvesting water wave energy.

Oyster wave energy converter

Author: Tadd Pham Published: Nov. Similar to most renewable energy sources, wave power is also renewable. Since this energy source ultimately comes from waves crashing upon the shores of many countries near the populated coastal regions, it will not disappear. Creating power from wave energy comes without the emission of harmful green house gases, waste, and pollution. A wave power plant occupying less than half square mile in the ocean would generate more than 30 MW of wave power — the equivalent of nearly 20, US homes.

The Oyster is a hydro-electric wave energy device that uses the motion of ocean waves to generate electricity. The PCU is a hinged buoyant flap that moves back and forth with movement of the waves. The movement of the flap drives two hydraulic pistons that feed high-pressured water to an onshore hydro-electric turbine, which drives a generator to make electricity. Current developments are underway to build a more efficient and powerful second-generation device, Oyster 2. Oyster was developed by Edinburgh-based Aquamarine Power , a company that focuses on wave energy.

Wave energy pros and cons

There are various very reliable forms used in the generation of electrical energy, one of those forms is Wave energy.

Не знаете, как его зовут. Клушар на мгновение задумался и покачал головой: - Понятия не имею.  - Он поморщился от боли и откинулся на подушки.

Капля Росы. Что-то в этом абсурдном имени тревожно сверлило его мозг.
