This title is directed primarily towards health care professionals outside of the United States. This edition has been thoroughly updated and contains integral coverage of soft lenses, information on the latest corneal measuring techniques, and expanded coverage of astigmatism and corneal toricity. It includes a new chapter on presbyopia and separate treatment of orthokeratology. Also included on the CD-ROM, is a set of invaluable computer programs, which allow the users to bypass tedious calculations in arriving at best fits.

Contact Lenses in Ophthalmic Practice

To evaluate the impact of soft contact lens eye-fit on optical power by computational modelling and to produce correction maps for reversing this impact during the design process. Lens optical zone power changes were calculated through computational light-ray tracing methods following each simulation. Spherical lenses demonstrated similar behaviour, however with some positive EPC over the power range from D to D for spherical power SPH lenses. EPC trends, along with minimum and maximum power, generally increased negatively as nominal lens prescription increased positively. Contact lens base curve selection affected the assessed effective power change for both spherical and toric lenses. The effect from lens total diameter for spherical lenses was less substantial than that for toric lenses.

We propose a design of a retinal-projection-based near-eye display for achieving ultra-large field of view, vision correction, and occlusion. Our solution is highlighted by a contact lens combo, a transparent organic light-emitting diode panel, and a twisted nematic liquid crystal panel.

Contact lens

Contact lens , or simply contacts , are thin lenses placed directly on the surface of the eyes. Contact lenses are ocular prosthetic devices used by over million people worldwide, [1] and they can be worn to correct vision or for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. People choose to wear contact lenses for many reasons. When compared with spectacles, contact lenses typically provide better peripheral vision , and do not collect moisture from rain, snow, condensation, etc. This can make them preferable for sports and other outdoor activities.

Author information

Purpose : To evaluate the visual performance and optical quality of a standardized asymmetric soft contact lens SCL used for correction of higher-order aberrations HOAs in eyes with keratoconus. Methods : We included 30 eyes 26 patients with keratoconus average K: The patients were subjected to corneal tomography, aberrometry, measurements of manifest refraction and visual acuity VA , and visual analog scale VAS assessments. The study lenses were made using a molding method and consisted of six standardized types, in which an asymmetric power distribution of approximately 2 to 12 D 2-D step was used to correct HOAs. The lens type suitable for each eye was selected based on the corneal tomography and aberrometry data. The on-eye performance of the lens was evaluated using aberrometry 4-mm pupil , over refraction, VA, and VAS.
