Calling all birders, bird friends and all those people who love watching birds in the garden but may or may not know what those birds are! Don’t forget its the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch 2015 this weekend (24th – 25th Jan). 3 good reasons to get involved:

• Birds are very cool
• Without birds, are gardens (and lives) would not be anywhere near as colourful
• Doing the Big Garden Bird Watch plays a really important role in protecting the huge variety of birds, found in the UK.

Also, its even possible to do the Big Garden Bird Watch whilst having a cup of tea! (other hot and cold drinks are available…)

If you love wildlife, this is a really easy initiative to get involved with, contributes a lot to UK wildlife conservation and is a good excuse to take some real time out and just watch the world go by from the comfort of your own home. It’s a win win.

Check out the Big Garden Bird Watch website here https://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/ and find out how to download your free Garden Bird Watch pack. There’s also a whole world of information here http://www.rspb.org.uk/ on how to learn which bird is which and other interesting facts. Happy birding!

We’d put a few ticks in the starling box if we did the survey from our office!

  1. All good stuff but also be aware that the British Trust for Ornithology run a system called BirdTrack where birders can input their everyday records too. As both long-term and short-term monitoring are equally important, I feel this is a valuable resource too, also you enter your records onto it from anywhere in the world.
