Trail running taster sessions on the beautiful North Cornwall coast

The beautiful Pentire Head, trail running heaven!

The beautiful Pentire Head, trail running heaven!

In 2012, Run England reported that the numbers of people participating in running had broken the 2 million mark for the first time ever. Possibly spurred into action by Olympic fever, it seems more and more people are discovering the benefits of putting on their trainers and getting outdoors.

Here at the National Trust, we love running. It’s the perfect way to get out and about on the footpaths crossing the land we care for, taking in the views, but at a slightly quicker pace than walking! Trail running can offer a more natural experience than road running and often provides a more forgiving surface on your joints than tarmac. Running on trails also lets you fully escape the hustle and bustle of urban areas, allowing you to unwind.

We’ve teamed up with Bodmin Road Runners to arrange three social trail runs around the beautiful Pentire Head near Polzeath. Taking place once a month from June to August, we’ll be running predominantly on the South West Coast path for either a three or five mile circular route. If you’ve been thinking about starting running, wanting to run off road or interested in meeting other people to run with this is your moment! There’s no commitment to joining a club afterwards, but if you’re hooked then there’s people to talk to about it. Alternatively, if you would just like to go for a run with some like minded people in a beautiful place this is also the event for you!

Once we’ve run around the headland, we’ll head down to the beach at Pentireglaze Haven for a BBQ before it gets dark. If you can’t make the run but want to meet members of a local running club, feel free to come along to the BBQ afterwards as well as bringing friends and family.
