Another new face in North Cornwall

Hi! My name is Katie and I am four days into my new role as one of the full time volunteers for North Cornwall – Boscastle to Morwenstow.

I have a BSc in Biology and an MSc in Environmental Consultancy from Newcastle University, for the past couple of years I’ve been involved with several research projects including studying Soay sheep and the St Kilda field mouse on St Kilda for Edinburgh University and researching baboons in Namibia for ZSL. I decided that I needed to get some practical skills under my belt and when I saw this post advertised I knew I had to apply.

The few days I have been here have already been very varied, ranging from pretending to be a barnacle on a rock pooling course, moving stepping stones in the Valency Valley, to mowing and strimming the grass down at Sandymouth. The preparation for summer has already begun!

I am very excited to be working here over the next 6-12 months. I already know a little about the area from coming here on many family holidays and I can’t believe I am going to be lucky enough to work here!

Looking forward to meeting you all soon!

Best wishes, Katie
