New full time volunteer ranger

Hi guys, my name is George and I’m the new full time volunteer ranger for North Cornwall – Tintagel to Holywell.

George at Porthcothan

I’ve been here a month now and I’m starting to learn how things work. When I saw the post advertised I couldn’t help but fire off an application as I have been holidaying on the south coast for many years and can never get enough of Cornwall. I thought it would be a great chance to get to know the north coast better. I’m doing my volunteering here as part of a foundation degree in Countryside Management and Conservation which I am studying towards at Aberystwyth University. I thought this would be a great chance to extend my knowledge and improve my practical skills along with spending 11 months in a part of the country I love.

So far I have been mainly helping with path clearance, installing and checking life saving rings and various volunteer events which I really enjoy. I will be gaining my brushcutter and 4×4 certificates soon. I am looking forward to spending the winter down here and seeing some dramatic seas.
