What better way to spend a summers day than carving your own spoon out of a freshly cut tree from the woods? We joined woodsman, Tom Kemp, for a day, to learn the art of spoon making.
Tom showed us how to choose a tree, which features to look out for, and how to cut it safely and responsibly so the tree can carry on growing for years to come.
We learnt how to use extremely sharp carving knives without cutting yourself, all the while getting tips how to do it as easily as possible.
After pasty, cake and a cup of tea, we carried on carving, with some excellent results, and everyone managed to finish their home-made spoon by the end of the day. If you would like more info about courses that Tom runs, follow this link…
We hope to host a similar event next year.
