Hello! My name is Pete and I’m the newest full time volunteer ranger in North Cornwall – Tintagel to Holywell. I have been here a few weeks now and thought it must be time to put a little introduction together for the blog!
Its only been four weeks and I feel at home already. I have moved down from the Newcastle upon Tyne area (you now have the token Geordie you always dreamed of) having never been to Cornwall before. So far I have been really enjoying the spectacular coastline and getting into the sea as often as I can.
I have recently returned from traveling in New Zealand and was looking for an opportunity to gain some practical experience in the conservation field to add to my FdSc Environmental Conservation and Countryside Management from Nottingham Trent Uni which I completed prior to my travels three years ago. I saw this opportunity on the Countryside Jobs Service website and fired an application off as soon as I could. Luckily I got the position and have so far gained my brushcutter licence, attended a heathland course down on the Lizard, assisted with volunteer days, installed interpretation displays and helped with some surveys.
I am looking forward to getting to know this fantatsic part of the UK better, attending more training, gaining more skills and getting to grips with a surfboard!
