Please give a warm welcome to one of the new members of the North Cornwall Ranger Team. Jenny’s been with us for a couple of months now and as she’s feeling nicely settled in, we thought it was about time she introduced herself to the blog!
“When I saw the advert for a full time volunteer ranger role in North Cornwall I got really excited because in my opinion, Cornwall is one of the best places to be in the UK and the North coast is such a beautiful and wild coastline; from its geology to the wildlife that flourishes there.
I recently completed a BSc Conservation Biology at UWE Bristol and saw this six month National Trust volunteer placement as a brilliant opportunity to build upon my practical conservation knowledge and skills. So far I have enjoyed learning a range of new practical skills such as fencing, hanging gates, using power tools (drill, kango hammer, router etc.) and have got my Lantra strimmer and brushcutter licence. I have also been on a variety of ecological courses, done wildlife surveys along the coast and volunteered with the local Polzeath Marine Conservation Group down on the beach, doing rockpool rambles and beach cleans.
I hope to continue improving my skills and learning much more while I’m here, including how to surf, sea kayak and paddleboard!”
