On Sunday 26 February we had our final Scrub n Spuds event of the season. We were once again very lucky and blessed with lovely weather and we managed to cut a large area of gorse on Pentire headland near Polzeath. Hopefully grasses and flowering plants will once again begin to thrive where the gorse was which will increase the diversity and number of insects, birds and butterflies on this already outstanding headland.
As for the spuds, they were beautifully cooked in the base of the bonfire. Topped with beans and cheese they went down well. One of our regular scrub bashers brought along dessert for us all – thanks Les!
A great big thanks to all those who have come out and helped us bash scrub over the winter season. This work is essential for wildlife and grazing animals. We just wouldn’t get as much done without the help of volunteers; we will be calling on your scrub bashing skills again next winter! But in the meantime we will be asking for help with loads of other projects throughout spring and summer – we’ll be in touch!
