A new construction was built in the Valency valley in Boscastle recently. Its not ‘woodhenge’ and the ranger team won’t be found there at either solstices. It is in fact the start of a shelter that will be available to one and all to use. With the help of our ever industrious volunteer group we built the main structure out of cleft oak that we felled as part of our continuing management in Peter’s wood.
The idea is that the ‘walls’ will be in filled with the help of local school pupils with logs, living willow and wattle and daub. We hope to use it for events and education days and in adverse conditions a parachute canopy will be put up to provide with shelter from the elements. At some stage a couple of benches will be installed and on quiet days the shelter will be open to the elements and available for the public to sit, relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Valency.
